आंवला Ayurveda's Beloved- Embelica Officinalis

Let me start with Amla,
Popular as Indian Gooseberry
Botanical name is EMBELICA OFFICINALIS.
Ayurveda describes this as a Rejuvenator and fruit full of wonders,
It is a Vitamin C rich fruit..
I will give a brief about what it can do with Health –
From times immemorial it is the main ingredient of CHYAWANPRASH AVALEH,
Its Health protective and curative properties are countless.It prevents ageing
And revitalizes the body functions,by improving body resistance and
Raising Phagocytic co-efficient of your body’s Immune System.
Fresh amla is taken in morning for vigour ,perfect digestion .
One tablespoon taken with one teaspoon of honey is good for preserving Eyesight.
In Rheumatic pains it is doing wonders if -one spoon powder of amla is taken with
One spoon of jaggery,with Hot water-twice daily.
Now see the modern view----
Food properties—per 100 gms
Vit. C—600mg Calcium ----50mg
Fibre---3.4% Moisture---81.8%
Protien---0.5% Carbohydrates---13.7%
Small amount of vit.B-Complex,minerals,Iron and phosphorus.
Calorific Value is 48.
To take full benefit it is advised to eat it raw.
Next best is to use as a vegetable.
Preservation for long should be done by drying it and making a powder.
Concluding this,without mentioning of its Magical Hair growth and pigmenting
Properties and traditional use with Coconut oil ,is not possible.

Your Food is MEDICINE

Ayurveda's basic thought is to protect the health of a person,which is like "prevention is better than cure" in western style.
If we keep our food habits under check and food timings correct than several diseases
will always be away from us.
In coming days i shall be elaborating on the subject, so that any of us, who has not given this a thought yet, is alerted and reconsider's his habits for a possible change.
Many tribal cultures who follow their food traditions,just do not require any medications.

आयुर्वेद सदा से 'स्वस्थस्य स्वास्थ्य रक्षणं " का सिद्धांत मानता है ,इस कारण 'भोजन" में हर समय
'पथ्य' और अपथ्य का विचार कर लेना उत्तम होता है।
रोग की उत्पत्ति, "असमय -अपथ्य" भोजन से,सर्वाधिक होती है.
